Acushnet Select Board appoints building inspector candidate, grants utility abatements

ACUSHNET — December 2, 2025 — Acushnet Select Board approves road race, appoints local building inspector, and abates utility bills. The board unanimously approved a one-day liquor license and special event permit for the Rebel Brew Run, a St. Francis School road race set for April 11, after Police Chief confirmed the revised Harbeck Street route raised no public-safety concerns. Mike Redlawn of Middleborough, a licensed contractor and real estate broker currently building three accessory dwelling units in his home town, was appointed local building inspector to help cover for the town's semi-retired building commissioner while Redlawn pursues state certifications, with his first exam December 19. The board granted three water and sewer abatements totaling $469.65, the largest being a $227.50 sewer credit to a resident identified as Mr. Mello who had requested a pool meter before a lawn re-grading project but was twice turned away by DPW staff. Board member Kevin Hinckley called the denial "kind of weird" and said the town's written policy must be updated to explicitly cover lawn re-establishment alongside pool filling to prevent recurrence.
