Board of Selectmen · Meeting of October 14, 2026
Acushnet's Board of Selectmen approved new water and sewer rates for fiscal 2027 and signed off on a liquor license transfer for Scuttlebutt's. Chairman Kevin A. Gaspar, Sr. said the city of New Bedford is raising its wholesale water charge 50 cents per 100 cubic feet, pushing the town's own water rate up to $8.25 for the first 1,500 cubic feet, effective July 1, 2026.
The board used sewer fund surplus to cut sewer rates 50 cents across all tiers, dropping the base rate to $10.50. Selectmen Robert Hinckley and Ryan Rezendes also voted unanimously to approve the liquor license transfer to Acushnet Wine and Spirits and to pave Union, William and Maple streets by November 15. Hinckley called a statewide ballot question allowing 5,000-square-foot lots "a giant fat no," citing school and infrastructure costs.
