Acushnet Select Board orders trash disposal bids ahead of June contract expiration

ACUSHNET — November 19, 2025 — Acushnet Select Board moves to rebid its municipal solid waste disposal contract before tackling a linked curbside hauling contract, both expiring June 30, 2026. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to have DPW Director Dan Menard work with Assistant Town Accountant Jamie V. and Town Counsel to draft disposal bid specifications within two weeks, noting that a distant vendor winning disposal could sharply drive up hauling costs. The board also approved declaring two sand spreaders and an old sweeper as surplus for scrap, and it set snow contractor sign-up deadlines at December 15 for a $1,000 per-vehicle perfect-attendance bonus and January 15 for a supplemental $500 bonus. A sewer abatement request from 23 Jean Street resident Fran Mull — who used roughly 4,500 cubic feet of water versus his typical 1,100 cubic feet while seeding a new lawn — was continued pending a review of prior summer quarter usage records, with no vote taken. The board deferred action on a proposal to pool opioid settlement funds with regional communities through a company called RISE, pending full documentation.
