Acushnet Select Board funds road paving, police assessments, and CATV van

ACUSHNET — October 8, 2025 — Acushnet Select Board chairman announces he will not seek re-election as board approves road paving and police assessment funding. Chairman Kevin Woonah disclosed at the October 8 meeting that he will not run again in the spring, saying he wanted to give potential candidates time to organize. The board voted unanimously to spend up to $110,000 in Chapter 90 funds to reclaim and pave Morningside Avenue and approved $49,000 from the CATV reserve fund for a utility van with an aerial lift. The board also approved $5,944 from free cash to hire BadgeQuest Inc. to run civil service assessment centers for both police chief and deputy chief candidates, with Provisional Chief Gary Copper flagging two open patrol shifts and two open dispatcher shifts per week filled entirely at overtime. "There's no such thing as a lame duck as far as I'm concerned," Woonah said of his remaining months in office.
