School Committee · Meeting of August 25, 2026

Acushnet's School Committee hired a new business manager and adopted a districtwide cell phone policy while leaving Fairhaven tuition talks unresolved. The committee voted 4-1 (one abstention) to appoint Ryan McGee as business manager, with Mrs. McGlynn abstaining because she didn't "really know enough about him." Superintendent Dr.

Bailey said the district still has no agreement with Fairhaven for the coming year, after hearing nothing since a March 31 negotiation session; roughly 24 current eighth graders have registered to continue there under the existing deal. The committee unanimously adopted a new cell phone policy barring elementary students from bringing devices to school, plus five other second-read policies. Staff reported 18 departures since spring, including 12 resignations, against seven open positions, with one member warning the district has lost "30 positions" to budget cuts over three years.

Longtime member Mr. Halcroft was also named a 2026 MASC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
