School Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Acushnet's School Committee adopted a state-mandated policy on ICE interactions and heard stark data on budget cuts. The committee voted unanimously to approve Policy ACL, requiring federal immigration officers to be directed to the superintendent's office rather than given building access, under the state's Protect Act. Members also approved an updated tuition policy adding Old Rochester Regional High School and accepted a donated Yamaha trombone.
Assistant Superintendent Angela Jerry reported Ford Middle School's state accountability percentile fell from 50th to 39th while Acushnet Elementary rose from 87th to 88th, a decline she and member Ellis tied to 27 staff positions cut districtwide over three years, including 18 at the middle school. An outside audit by Rebus Associates found out-of-district special education costs topped $3.5 million. "So that money, we have to pay, period," Ellis said.
