Acushnet School Committee approves five-year strategic plan unanimously

School Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Acushnet School Committee adopts five-year strategic plan, tables superintendent bonus vote. Consultant Pam Gould of the Teaching and Learning Alliance presented the finished 2026-2031 plan, built around the values "perseverance, responsibility, innovation, discovery and engagement," after a member questioned whether it addressed preparing students for "a democratic and pluralistic society." Parent representative Donnie Williams, who served on the drafting committee, said members "discussed back and forth the exact precise words" in the document. The committee also welcomed incoming Business Manager Ryan McGee from Seekonk Public Schools, thanked outgoing Business Manager Petrino, rated Superintendent Bailey "proficient" in her annual evaluation, and tabled a vote on her performance bonus.

A member raised concerns about the building's lack of an emergency plan for adults, asking, "How would we exit?" if someone brought a firearm into the building. Two youth-sports facility contracts were renewed at unchanged cost.
