Acushnet's Board of Health voted to waive ongoing monitoring for a pilot septic system. The board approved the waiver 2-0, with one member abstaining, for the "layer cake" leaching field at 73 South Main Street, ending quarterly lab testing that members said cost close to $700 a year. Consultant Maureen Thomas told the board the system removes about 43 percent of total nitrogen, short of an 80 to 90 percent target, but said Westport and Dartmouth boards have already dropped similar requirements.
Health Agent Jennifer Gailey also briefed the board on a new state rule, 105 CMR 726, temporarily making kratom a Schedule I substance from August 27, 2026 to August 28, 2027; the board voted to notify the town's nine tobacco permit holders. Members also gave the owner of 382 New Boston Road 30 days to clear junk before facing fines, and continued enforcement matters at 12 Carol Street and 23 Frank Street.
