ACUSHNET — The Acushnet Housing Authority approved a fiscal 2027 budget requesting a $129,887 state subsidy after a contractor fraud scare delayed common-area flooring repairs. Consultant Kim Crow of Fenton and Ewald and Associates told the board both the main housing program and the smaller Garfield Street program will draw roughly $5,000 each from reserves this year, partly because the state held its spending cap flat. The board separately voted to approve a $47,378.93 payment to Mass Floors for flooring work, about $19,000 less than the original contract with Coastal Construction and Management, which was terminated after the board said the company turned out to be fraudulent.
"This isn't the first time a housing authority has been frauded by some contractors," a board member said. A long-stalled electrical upgrade remains on hold while the authority waits for Eversource to install a new utility pole following Select Board approval. Reserves stood at 63 percent of the state maximum, well above the required 35 percent floor.
